Description For Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Microsoft HoloLens Team is continuing to revolutionize consumer electronic devices. We are expanding our team of experienced device product developers, working in a collaborative environment to redefine experiences with epic technology innovation. We are developing ground-breaking hardware, software and experiences across computer vision, machine learning, human-computer interaction, image and video processing, networking, and graphics.

The Microsoft HoloLens Display team is currently looking for a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer. The team's mission is to design world-class and inventive AR devices for use in next-generation military and first responder market segments. In this role, the primary responsibilities will include working with a team of Optical Engineers and scientists to develop and build robust see-thru optical AR glasses. The candidate must be experienced in volume opto-mechanics design and process development.

This role requires the ability to work and collaborate on-site at our labs in Redmond, WA. The position involves developing complex display systems that integrate mechanical and optical components, translating optical requirements and sensitivities into mechanical requirements, and collaborating with partner teams to design and integrate subsystems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing complex display systems that integrate mechanical and optical components
  • Translating optical requirements and sensitivities into mechanical requirements
  • Equipment, process flow, and supply chain development
  • Collaboration with partner teams (especially Optics Engineering, Industrial Design, sensors, and other Mechanical Engineers) to design and integrate subsystems
  • Developing and evaluating opto-mechanical designs with considerations of tolerance and stability over environmental storage/operation ranges and reliability requirements
  • Resolving reliability failures through test and analysis
  • Driving definition of mechanical calibration procedures for various assembly and test stations
  • Building and execution of test plans to understand and resolve yield, performance, and reliability issues

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, or Optical Engineering, with experience in product design, mechanical assemblies, opto-mechanical design, and lab experience. Proficiency in CAD software like Solidworks or Zenax is required.

Join the Microsoft HoloLens team and be part of revolutionizing AR technology for military and first responder applications.
