Microsoft Quantum is seeking a Senior Quantum Hardware Engineer to join their team working on advanced computing platforms at the intersection of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum information technology. This role is critical in accelerating the delivery of useful quantum computers through Microsoft's internal program pursuing topological qubits.
The position sits within the Quantum Product Acceleration team, where you'll be responsible for integrating hardware and software to realize successful multi-qubit systems. You'll work on bridging the gap between teams making and measuring qubits and those developing the real-time operating systems needed to control quantum computers.
As a Senior Quantum Hardware Engineer, you'll be hands-on in standing up prototype systems and collaborating with customers to validate their operation. The role offers the opportunity to work in a startup-like environment alongside talented hardware and software engineers, both within Microsoft and with partners, to design and realize critical components for full-stack quantum computers.
Key responsibilities include building cryogenic testing systems, maintaining expert knowledge to influence product direction, producing documentation, and serving as a bridge between various development teams. You'll need to monitor technology trends, engage with partners, and evaluate various constraints to determine product roadmaps.
The ideal candidate will have advanced education in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Quantum Information Science, along with relevant experience in quantum systems and cryogenic testing. Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-moving, geographically distributed team environment are essential. The role requires up to 25% travel to support program activities.
Microsoft offers comprehensive benefits including industry-leading healthcare, educational resources, savings and investment options, parental leave, and opportunities for professional growth. The position is based in Reston, Virginia, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring 3 days per week in-office.
This is an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of quantum computing advancement, working with cutting-edge technology while contributing to Microsoft's mission of empowering every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.
