Job Description

Modal is at the forefront of AI infrastructure, building a cutting-edge serverless compute platform designed specifically for next-generation AI companies. In just one year, they've achieved remarkable success with 8-figure revenue, tripled their headcount, and secured over $32M in funding. The company has developed its own comprehensive infrastructure stack, including custom file systems, container runtime, scheduler, and container image builder.

As a Security Engineer at Modal, you'll be joining a dynamic team spread across New York, Stockholm, and San Francisco. The role offers a unique opportunity to work on critical security aspects of Modal's low-level systems and infrastructure. You'll be collaborating closely with engineering teams to drive projects across various security domains including AppSec, CloudSec, Detection and Response, and Compliance.

The position requires a hands-on approach and deep technical expertise, with at least 5 years of experience in building and operating security controls in production systems. You'll be working alongside an impressive team that includes creators of popular open-source projects like Seaborn and Luigi, academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and seasoned engineering leaders.

This role is perfect for someone who wants to be part of a fast-growing AI infrastructure organization at an early stage, with significant opportunities for growth. You'll be responsible for the full security lifecycle, from threat modeling and secure design reviews to vulnerability management and implementation of security solutions. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $150K to $270K plus equity, reflecting the critical nature of the role and the company's strong market position.
