We're seeking a Staff Engineer specializing in Machine Learning and Medical Image Analysis to join our dynamic team in San Carlos, California.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in revolutionizing medical procedures using state-of-the-art technologies. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management and clinical engineering, to define and create the future of medical robotics. Your expertise in machine learning and medical image analysis will be instrumental in developing cutting-edge solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in medical procedures.

Key responsibilities include researching and prototyping advanced algorithmic and machine learning solutions, contributing high-quality software implementations for medical devices, and mentoring junior engineers. You'll also be involved in defining ML processes, building infrastructure, and drafting technical documentation and patent applications.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field (or an exceptional MS degree) with 8+ years of experience in algorithm development for machine/deep learning and medical image analysis. Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks is essential, and experience with C++ is valuable. A strong publication record in top conferences like CVPR or MICCAI is highly desirable.

Responsibilities For Staff Engineer, Machine Learning and Medical Image Analysis

  • Work with cross functional teams to identify concepts and solutions
  • Research, prototype and iterate algorithmic, machine learning and software solutions
  • Quickly prototype and evaluate concepts
  • Perform thorough technical evaluation and make data-driven decisions
  • Contribute high-quality software implementations that can be incorporated into a medical device
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns
  • Support the definition of ML processes and best practices, build infrastructure
  • Draft technical documentation and patent disclosures / applications

Requirements For Staff Engineer, Machine Learning and Medical Image Analysis

Python
  • PhD in ML/AI, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Radiology or a similar field, exceptional MS degree will be considered
  • Strong technical skill and track record of excellence with 8+ years of total experience of algorithm development for machine/deep learning and medical image analysis
  • Mastery of the state-of-the-art deep learning models for the above areas and experience on model deployment in commercial products
  • Publication record in top conferences such as CVPR, MICCAI is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Python, as well as deep learning frameworks; experience with C++
  • Experience of full cycle of product development is highly desirable
  • Knowledge in FDA regulation on AI/ML and hands-on experience of FDA submission of machine learning algorithms is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with ML infrastructure (hardware and software), processes and best practices
  • Strong leadership in leading projects and collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with data curation for machine learning
  • Experience with pulmonology is a plus
