OpenAI is seeking a Software Engineer for their Anti Fraud & Abuse team within the Applied Engineering organization. This role involves designing and building next-generation anti-fraud systems, working closely with various teams to combat fraudulent and abusive actors, and utilizing GPT-4 and future models to enhance fraud prevention.
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of software engineering experience in backend and data systems, with 2+ years in fraud or abuse analysis. They should be able to quickly understand and improve the existing codebase, have a strong desire to learn, and be comfortable with ambiguity and rapid changes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing fraud detection and remediation systems
- Collaborating with finance, security, product, research, and trust & safety operations
- Staying updated on the latest anti-fraud techniques and tools
- Leveraging AI models like GPT-4 to combat fraud and abuse effectively
The tech stack includes Terraform, Kubernetes, Azure, Python, Postgres, and Kafka. While experience with these technologies is valuable, the company prioritizes strong technical skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new tools.

Requirements For Software Engineer, Anti Fraud & Abuse
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience in backend and data systems
- At least 2 years experience in fraud or abuse analysis, investigation, and/or operations
- Ability to understand and improve existing codebase
- Strong desire to learn and fill in missing skills
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions
- Experience in Machine Learning techniques is a plus, but not required
