Pinterest, a leading visual discovery platform serving over half a billion users, is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead their Closeup Relevance team. This role sits at the intersection of machine learning innovation and user experience, focusing on Pinterest's largest recommendation surface that serves billions of daily impressions.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work with one of the world's largest datasets, creating personalized experiences that help users explore and discover content through over 6 billion monthly search queries. As a Staff ML Engineer, you'll be responsible for leading cross-team technical initiatives, driving innovation in recommendation systems, and working with state-of-the-art ML technology.
The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering, requiring expertise in machine learning, large-scale systems, and product development. You'll collaborate with talented ML engineers across teams, lead the redesign of recommendation funnels, and partner with product management and data scientists to expand impact across Pinterest.

- Lead ML innovations with impact across the organization

Requirements For Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Closeup Relevance
- 7+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning
- 5+ years of proposing and delivering ML innovations
- 3+ years of experience leading large-scale ML recommendation systems teams
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in setting and delivering technical directions at team and organizational level
- Expertise in machine learning modeling and infrastructure
- Knowledge of statistics, backend, batch and realtime processing systems
- Ability to drive team roadmap end to end
- Product-minded with focus on user impact
