Job Description

Qualcomm is seeking a CPU Server Physical Design Clock Engineer to join their team in Santa Clara, California. This is a senior-level position that combines hardware engineering expertise with specialized knowledge in clock design and distribution systems.

The role involves working at the cutting edge of CPU development, where you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including microarchitecture, RTL design, CAD, and various physical design teams. Your primary focus will be creating best-in-class clocking solutions that will power next-generation CPUs. This position requires deep technical expertise in clock generation and distribution, with particular emphasis on low skew and low power implementations.

The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of practical experience, preferably with an MS in Electrical Engineering. You'll need to demonstrate mastery of clock H-tree, mesh, and spine implementations, along with a thorough understanding of device physics and electrical aspects. Proficiency in SPICE simulation and analysis is essential for the circuit design and verification aspects of the role.

Responsibilities For CPU Server Physical Design Clock Engineer

  • Work with design teams to understand, implement and validate CPU clocking
  • Drive overall clock generation and distribution methodology of CPU
  • Work with CAD & block level designers to implement clocking techniques for optimizing skew and power
  • Perform jitter analysis and measurements
  • Provide feedback to block level and top level physical design engineers

Requirements For CPU Server Physical Design Clock Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years experience
  • Experience in clock H-tree, mesh, spines and CTS implementations
  • Good understanding of device physics, RC delay and electrical aspects
  • Proficiency in SPICE simulation and analysis
  • MS in Electrical Engineering preferred with 8+ years experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in deep submicron process technology nodes
  • Proficient in PLL specifications, clock skew estimation, and jitter measurements
