Description For Maritime Platforms Engineer

Join a prestigious government customer as a Maritime Platforms Engineer in Bristol, working on critical submarine engineering projects. This role, positioned within the Design Authority Structures (DAST) section of the SDA In-Service Submarines Platform Engineering Team, focuses on structural and mechanical engineering for submarine systems. The position offers a competitive day rate of up to £550 and requires 3 days per week on-site presence.

The role involves ensuring the structural integrity and safety of in-service submarines, both at sea and during docking operations. You'll be responsible for assessing structural elements, setting design requirements, and developing solutions for complex engineering challenges. This position requires expertise in maritime engineering, with a focus on submarine structures and safety systems.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in maritime engineering, with specific experience in submarine structures. You must have professional registration, relevant qualifications, and essential safety certifications. This role offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge submarine technology while contributing to national defense infrastructure.

Security clearance (SC) is required, and candidates must be sole UK nationals. The contract is initially scheduled until September 2025, operating inside IR35 through an umbrella company. Responsibilities For Maritime Platforms Engineer

  • Ensuring in-service submarines remain safe to operate with respect to Structural Strength
  • Setting Design Authority Requirements (DAR) for surveys, repairs, and concessions
  • Assessing OPDEFs for their impact on the Struct2 areas of responsibility
  • Developing design changes for secondary structure
  • Reviewing Design Changes for impact on structural strength

Requirements For Maritime Platforms Engineer

  • Professional registration in line with current SDA Policy
  • Level 6 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or lesser qualification with significant relevant experience
  • Nuclear Introductory Course
  • System Safety Awareness
  • System Safety in Action (SSIA)
  • Safety & Environmental Management (SEMT)
  • 4 years' experience in a maritime post
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of submarine specific structures
  • Must be sole UK nationals
  • SC Clearance required
