Job Description

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is seeking a Firmware Test Lead to own the quality strategy and execution for MCU-based devices. This player/coach role combines hands-on work with team leadership, guiding firmware QA engineers while collaborating with firmware development, hardware, and product teams. The position focuses on ensuring robust, high-quality embedded software delivery for devices operating in challenging environments.

The role involves working with RTOS-based firmware featuring complex connectivity stacks including cellular, GPS, BLE, WiFi, and CAN. Leadership responsibilities include scaling QA infrastructure, test automation, and validation processes. This hybrid position requires 3 days per week in the San Francisco office.

Responsibilities For Lead Firmware Quality Engineer

  • Lead a small team of quality engineers and provide technical leadership
  • Develop and execute test plans, test automation, and system validation for embedded firmware
  • Partner with firmware developers, product managers, and hardware engineers
  • Improve test infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and coverage reporting
  • Serve as a quality champion throughout the development lifecycle
  • Build and enhance automated test frameworks and HIL setups
  • Support field validation testing, log analysis, and issue triage

Requirements For Lead Firmware Quality Engineer

  • 6+ years of experience in embedded systems or firmware testing
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or team lead role
  • Solid experience testing RTOS-based embedded systems (Zephyr, FreeRTOS)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and test automation frameworks
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
