Job Description

Shield AI, a pioneering deep-tech company founded in 2015, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Autonomous Aircraft Integration. This role sits at the crucial intersection of software development and aerospace systems, focusing on deploying cutting-edge autonomy solutions for unmanned aircraft systems.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that directly impact service members and civilians through intelligent autonomous systems. Based in multiple locations including Washington DC, Boston, and San Diego, the role involves significant hands-on work with complex integration challenges spanning hardware, software, and systems engineering.

The ideal candidate will be deeply involved in the full lifecycle of autonomous system deployment, from initial integration to field testing and optimization. With a travel requirement of 30-40%, this role offers extensive hands-on experience with real-world autonomous systems. The position requires strong technical skills in C++, Python, and Linux-based development, combined with practical experience in embedded systems and sensor integration.

What makes this role particularly compelling is its direct impact on developing autonomous capabilities for defense applications. Working with Shield AI means joining a company with a clear mission and global presence, including offices in the US, UAE, Ukraine, and Australia. The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $160,000 to $240,000 annually, plus bonus and equity opportunities.

The role demands a unique blend of technical expertise and practical field experience, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both complex software challenges and hands-on system integration. You'll be working with cutting-edge technology in autonomy, flight systems, and embedded software, while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.

This position offers significant growth potential in the rapidly evolving field of autonomous systems, particularly in aerospace and defense applications. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between R&D and real-world deployment of autonomous systems, ensuring they perform reliably in critical situations.
