Job Description

Shield AI, a pioneering defense technology company founded in 2015, is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join their Autonomous Aircraft Integration team. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and aerospace, focusing on developing and implementing autonomous systems for unmanned aircraft operating across Department of Defense domains.

The position demands a unique blend of technical expertise in embedded systems, real-time software development, and hands-on experience with flight operations. As a Senior Staff Engineer, you'll be responsible for bridging the gap between R&D and deployment, ensuring autonomous systems function reliably in mission-critical scenarios. The role involves significant system integration work, combining hardware and software components to create robust autonomous solutions.

Working from either Washington DC, Boston, or San Diego, you'll be part of a dynamic team that supports live flight operations and conducts critical system integration tasks. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $220,800 to $331,200 annually, plus bonus, benefits, and equity. With a travel requirement of 30-40%, you'll have the opportunity to work across different office locations and customer sites.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of relevant experience, strong programming skills in C++ and Python, and deep knowledge of embedded systems and Linux development. You'll work with cutting-edge technology including sensor integration, autonomous systems, and simulation environments, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical functionality.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys hands-on technical work, and wants to make a meaningful impact in defense technology. The role offers the chance to work on advanced autonomous systems while contributing to Shield AI's mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems.
