Shield AI, a pioneering defense technology company founded in 2015, is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join their Autonomous Aircraft Integration team. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and aerospace, focusing on developing and implementing autonomous systems for unmanned aircraft operating across Department of Defense domains.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $220,800 to $331,200 annually, plus bonus, benefits, and equity. With a travel requirement of 30-40%, you'll have the opportunity to work across different office locations and customer sites.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of relevant experience, strong programming skills in C++ and Python, and deep knowledge of embedded systems and Linux development. Responsibilities For Senior Staff Engineer, Software - Autonomous Aircraft Integration (R3775)
- Integrate autonomy software onto unmanned aircraft systems
- Own the build, configuration, and validation process for flight-ready systems
- Travel to test sites and support live flight operations
- Diagnose and resolve integration issues across complex autonomy software stacks
- Manage data collection during missions and post-test analysis
- Work closely with autonomy, GNC, systems, and test teams
- Build tools and processes to improve integration timelines
- Assist with documentation and system-level validation
- Travel 30-40% of the year to different locations
Requirements For Senior Staff Engineer, Software - Autonomous Aircraft Integration (R3775)
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
- 10+ years experience with Bachelor's degree; or 9 years with Master's; or 7 years with PhD
- Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Proficiency in Linux-based development and embedded systems
- Knowledge of sensor integration, sensor fusion, and middleware frameworks
- Hands-on experience supporting flight demos
- Experience with simulation tools and environments
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
