As a Staff Deep Learning Engineer in the Vision Systems division, you'll be at the forefront of perception technology innovation, working on cutting-edge AI-powered real-time perception solutions. The role involves tackling complex challenges in edge computing and advancing AI's capability to interpret and interact with the world in unprecedented ways.
The position offers an opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technology, implementing and optimizing deep learning solutions for computer vision applications. You'll be part of a high-performing, collaborative engineering team based in Port Melbourne, close to Melbourne CBD, working on mission-critical AI and perception technology that solves real-world defence and security challenges.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in deep learning, particularly in computer vision applications, with expertise in CNNs and transformers. Additional valuable skills include published research in leading AI conferences, proficiency in C++ and Python, and experience with edge AI deployment and MLOps.

Responsibilities For Staff Deep Learning Engineer
- Research, design, and implement state-of-the-art perception capabilities, taking ideas from concept to field deployment
- Deploy and optimise AI stack for edge devices
- Collaborate with deep learning engineers to develop scalable tools and frameworks for large-scale AI operations
- Stay up to date with cutting-edge AI and deep learning research, contributing to ongoing R&D initiatives
Requirements For Staff Deep Learning Engineer
- Recent experience developing deep learning-based solutions for computer vision applications
- Strong understanding of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformers for object classification, recognition, and segmentation
- Experience implementing novel deep learning architectures using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Caffe
- Experience mentoring junior engineers/researchers in AI and deep learning
