Description For Automation Design Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX, founded with the vision of making humanity a multi-planetary species, is at the forefront of space technology development with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. As part of this mission, they're deploying Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system through the largest satellite constellation ever created.

The Automation Design Engineer role at SpaceX's Bastrop facility focuses on developing sophisticated factory solutions for consumer electronics production at scale. This position combines mechanical engineering, electrical systems, and industrial automation to create innovative manufacturing processes for Starlink hardware.

The role requires a unique blend of technical skills across multiple disciplines - from mechanical design and motion systems to electrical engineering and PLC programming. You'll be working on creative, multi-disciplinary projects that directly impact the production of technology that's bringing internet access to millions worldwide.

SpaceX's approach of keeping all engineering and production in-house creates an environment where feedback loops are tight and decision-making is agile. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge manufacturing technology while contributing to SpaceX's broader mission of making humanity multi-planetary.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in engineering principles, hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where innovation and practical implementation go hand in hand. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technology while contributing to a mission that's literally reaching for the stars.

The position requires the ability to work extended hours when necessary and must comply with ITAR requirements, meaning candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or eligible for required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
