Description For Product Design Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX is seeking a Product Design Engineer for their Consumer Hardware team focused on Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. This role is based in Bastrop, TX, and is part of the team developing high-volume consumer products shipped directly to customers worldwide.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead creative, multi-disciplinary projects from conceptual design through high-volume production and public launch
  • Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization
  • Test and iterate on products for high field reliability and performance
  • Design and develop production lines, including robot end effector design, process development, and automation programming
  • Refine production systems for high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes
  • Establish efficient product lifecycles balancing cost, complexity, and quality

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Master's preferred)
  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis
  • 2+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, and structural analysis
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
  • Exposure to production machinery and industrial equipment

Compensation includes a competitive base salary range of $95,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on level and experience, as well as potential stock options, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits. This role may require the ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones.

  • Understanding of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, structural analysis, and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary
  • U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or eligibility for required authorizations
