Description For RF Hardware Engineer (Avionics)

SpaceX, founded with the vision of humanity exploring the stars, is seeking an RF Hardware Engineer for their Avionics team. This role involves designing and improving RF hardware for spacecraft and launch vehicles, troubleshooting electronic assemblies, and enhancing reliability and manufacturability. Key responsibilities include designing new hardware, redesigning existing components, and resolving on-vehicle anomalies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, experience with RF systems, and proficiency in various software tools. This position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and redesign hardware to improve reliability and manufacturability
  • Troubleshoot avionics hardware and resolve on-vehicle anomalies
  • Modify electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Design and troubleshoot RF test setups
  • Participate in manufacturing assessments and optimize for cost

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience with electronic components and RF systems
  • Proficiency in Matlab, LabVIEW, Python, SPICE, SQL, and/or National Instruments hardware
  • Laboratory experience with various test equipment
  • Knowledge of RF circuit elements and simulation software
  • Understanding of digital communication systems and environmental testing

  • Design new hardware, redesign existing hardware, and perform modifications to PCBAs and mechanical drawings
  • Troubleshoot avionics hardware spanning PCBA board testing and defect detection
  • Modify electrical schematics and mechanical drawings for flight applications
  • Design and troubleshoot RF test setups and associated support equipment
  • Participate in manufacturing assessments of new RF designs and drive optimization for manufacturability and cost

Requirements For RF Hardware Engineer (Avionics)

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with electronic components, environments testing, unit level testing, or RF systems
  • 3+ years of experience with Matlab, LabVIEW, Python, SPICE, SQL, and/or National Instruments hardware
  • Laboratory experience with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, channel emulators, oscilloscopes, and power meters
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
