Job Description

SpaceX, founded with the vision of making humanity a multi-planetary species, is at the forefront of space technology development. As part of their Starlink initiative, they're building the world's most advanced broadband internet system through a vast satellite constellation. The Sr. Automation Design Engineer role is crucial in developing manufacturing solutions for consumer electronics at scale.

The position combines mechanical engineering, electrical systems, and industrial software expertise to create innovative factory automation solutions. You'll be working in SpaceX's Hawthorne and Austin facilities, focusing on developing sophisticated yet user-friendly factory solutions for producing consumer electronics in the tens of millions.

The role demands a unique blend of technical skills across multiple disciplines, including machine design, robotics, motion systems, and factory monitoring. You'll be responsible for leading creative, multidisciplinary projects that contribute directly to SpaceX's mission of delivering internet access globally through Starlink.

This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced environment where your work will have a direct impact on bringing internet connectivity to underserved areas worldwide. The position offers exposure to various aspects of advanced manufacturing, from initial concept through to operational implementation.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in automation engineering, with the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software domains. You'll be part of SpaceX's unique approach of keeping all engineering and production in-house, enabling rapid iteration and innovation in manufacturing processes.
