Description For Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer (Avionics)

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Hardware Reliability Engineer to join their Build Reliability team focused on avionics hardware. This role offers extensive exposure across multiple areas including sensors, RF, power electronics, vision systems, computation nodes, networking, batteries, and solar systems. The position involves collaborating with core groups at SpaceX to support hardware from design through production and operation.

The ideal candidate will use data-driven approaches to understand reliability factors and drive quality improvements across design and development teams. This hands-on role requires working in the office, factory floor, and lab environments to contribute to SpaceX's mission of making humanity interplanetary.

As a Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer, you'll be responsible for partnering with engineering teams to improve product reliability, conducting failure investigations, leading risk reduction initiatives, and mentoring junior engineers. The role requires expertise in PCBA manufacturing, electrical test equipment, and avionics systems.

The position offers competitive compensation between $125,000-$175,000 per year plus equity opportunities through stock options and ESPP. Responsibilities For Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer (Avionics)

  • Partner with electrical design engineering and avionics manufacturing teams to improve product reliability
  • Support new product development through HASS style development
  • Identify opportunities for risk reduction and removal of complexity in designs
  • Conduct PCBA test failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Monitor yield rate of products and drive corrective action
  • Support shop floor continuous improvement
  • Serve as technical expert in avionics processes
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers

Requirements For Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer (Avionics)

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 5+ years in a PCBA manufacturing and/or avionics design role with a focus on hands on hardware support/test/root cause
  • 3+ years of experience with electrical test equipment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements
