Teledyne Technologies is seeking a Senior Principal Development Engineer to lead the development of advanced electronic systems for defense and space applications. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering, requiring expertise in electronic system design from semiconductor-level components to integrated box-level systems. The position involves leading a team of engineers while actively participating in product development, from concept through production.
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of experience in electronic design engineering, preferably in defense or aerospace sectors, with a strong foundation in electrical engineering (BS required, MS preferred). This role demands expertise across multiple disciplines, including optoelectronics, sensors, displays, and power management systems, particularly focusing on GaN-based technologies and spacecraft applications.
Key responsibilities include leading product development initiatives, managing an engineering team, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and maintaining technical documentation. The role requires proficiency with industry-standard tools like OrCAD, PSpice, and SolidWorks, along with a deep understanding of military standards and specifications.

Responsibilities For Senior Principal Development Engineer
- Lead product development from concept through prototype, validation, and production release
- Direct and manage a team of engineers as a working manager
- Employ systems engineering disciplines, guiding requirements definition, architecture, and technical analysis
- Design and support electronic systems including optoelectronics, sensors, displays, and power management systems
- Develop box-level hardware architectures including interface definitions
- Perform technical analyses such as electrical part stress and worst-case circuit analysis
- Generate and maintain technical documentation
- Lead and present at design reviews
- Review and create mechanical CAD models
Requirements For Senior Principal Development Engineer
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering required; MSEE preferred
- 10+ years in electronic design engineering, preferably in defense or aerospace sectors
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and mentor junior engineers
- Multidisciplinary background across systems, mechanical, optical, thermal, and materials engineering
- Strong understanding of product assurance, cost control, and schedule adherence
- Proficiency in OrCAD for schematic capture and PSpice for circuit analysis
- Experience with SolidWorks 2023
- Familiarity with military standards
