Job Description

Telesat, a leading global satellite operator listed on NASDAQ and TSX, is seeking a Senior Specialist Software Developer for their revolutionary Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. This role is crucial in leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Element Management System (EMS) for the Lightspeed system, scheduled to begin service in 2027. The position requires an experienced professional with 15+ years of experience to handle complex technical challenges and drive innovative solutions within an Agile SAFe framework.

The role involves leading EMS FCAPS applications development, architecting YANG modules, and ensuring system security and integrity. You'll work with cutting-edge satellite technology, contributing to a project that aims to revolutionize global broadband connectivity by delivering high capacity, security, and ultra-low latency services.

Working from the Ottawa headquarters in a hybrid model (4 days in office), you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive vendor partnerships. Responsibilities For Senior Specialist Software Developer

  • Lead the design and analysis of EMS FCAPS applications for managing Lightspeed network elements
  • Drive vendor collaboration to evaluate and integrate EMS solutions
  • Oversee technical documentation to ensure architectural integrity
  • Maintain comprehensive EMS documentation
  • Architect YANG modules for modular resource and service management
  • Lead resolution of complex implementation and network issues
  • Design and maintain automated test suites
  • Define and enforce EMS security standards
  • Contribute to system-level modeling
  • Collaborate across engineering and operations teams
  • Recommend and drive system-wide improvements to the LEO Lightspeed architecture

Requirements For Senior Specialist Software Developer

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of design principles and specifications for standardized EMS Systems
  • Solid knowledge of EMS protocols and modelling languages (NETCONF/RESTCONF, gRPC/gNMI, gNOI, YANG, UML)
  • Familiarity with TMForum Open Digital Architecture (ODA), Process Framework (eTOM), TMForum APIs
  • Familiarity with Model-based systems engineering (MBSE)
  • Knowledge of MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (MEF LSO APIs) framework
