Tesla, a leading innovator in the automotive industry, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Castings to join their team in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge high-pressure die casting technologies for Tesla's vehicle manufacturing processes.

The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product Design, Simulation, and Process Engineering to develop and optimize die casting tooling solutions. You'll be responsible for creating detailed 3D CAD tooling design models and ensuring manufacturability while maintaining high performance standards.

This role offers competitive compensation ranging from $80,000 to $204,000 annually, plus additional benefits including stock awards. Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Castings

  • Develop CAD design of new die cast tooling from concept through production
  • Provide feedback to Product Design Engineers on manufacturability
  • Incorporate input from Flow and Thermal Simulation Engineers
  • Capture feedback from Casting Process Engineers
  • Innovate new ideas to improve performance and minimize risk
  • Provide technical oversight of tooling suppliers
  • Manage product design, die design, and die fabrication timelines
  • Develop tooling design and fabrication schedules

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Castings

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Mechanical design experience
  • Strong to expert level 3D CAD skills
  • CATIA V5+ fluency preferred
  • Experience with aluminum High Vacuum High Pressure thin wall structural die casting tool design (preferred)
