Tesla is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for their Powerwall team to drive the development of next-generation batteries, solar hardware, and energy management products. This role combines mechanical engineering expertise with innovative energy solutions, working within a dynamic team environment. The position offers an opportunity to shape the future of sustainable energy storage and management systems, working on multiple parallel projects from concept to mass production.

The role demands strong technical capabilities in mechanical design, thermal analysis, and electronics packaging, with responsibilities spanning from initial concept development to manufacturing implementation. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in high-volume electronics or automotive hardware design, coupled with expertise in 3D mechanical design tools and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Powerwall

  • Modeling and design of mechanical systems and components including plastic, metal and sheet metal parts
  • Mechanical design analysis including thermal, structural, design for assembly, and design for test
  • Solve electronics packaging issues including isolation, EMC, RF transmission, thermal management
  • Create drawing packages and instructions for manufacturing and assembly
  • Assist in engineering prototype builds and component fabrication
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams

Requirements For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Powerwall

  • 2+ years experience designing high volume electronics products or appliances
  • Deep understanding of material science of components
  • Experience using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&Rs, failure analysis, statistical control methods
  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis and design for reliability concepts
  • Experience with designing products for international safety certifications
