The Athletic, a leading sports media company with a newsroom of 450+ full-time staff, is seeking a Mobile Engineer for their iOS team in Australia. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work on their native iOS application, building and maintaining key features that serve sports fans across the globe. The ideal candidate will bring 2+ years of Swift development experience and a passion for creating polished user experiences while maintaining high code quality standards.

The role involves close collaboration with Design and Product teams to create beautiful, performant UI components while architecting scalable solutions. You'll be responsible for writing tests, debugging issues, and contributing to product improvements. The position requires strong technical skills in iOS development, with preferred experience in modern frameworks like SwiftUI, Combine, and GraphQL.

Responsibilities For Mobile Engineer, iOS (Australia)

  • Work with Design and Product teams to build UI that is beautiful, performant, and well-engineered
  • Architect and build the app to optimize for performance, growth, scalability, ease of future development, and code quality
  • Write unit and functional tests to ensure maximum code and app quality
  • Investigate, debug, and fix user-reported production issues
  • Brainstorm new product ideas and improvements alongside the design and product teams
  • Refactor existing code where needed to improve quality of life for other engineers
  • Work within a highly cross-functional team, iterating on process and making suggestions for improvements

Requirements For Mobile Engineer, iOS (Australia)

  • 2+ years experience with native iOS development in Swift
  • Consumer-facing product and design instincts with a desire to have a voice in product decisions
  • Preferred experience in GraphQL, SwiftUI, Combine
  • Preferred experience in an early-stage startup working on growth and scale challenges
  • Passion for sports and media is helpful, but not required
