Should I quit my project?

Hello everyone,

I have created website https://www.mano-nt.lt .It's a real estate listings website. I'm feeling of quitting it, because of a poor SEO. Currently I have no users and I don't know how to improve it. Also, because of poor SEO, it doesn't solve the main problem: real estate listing, that should be findable via search engines. Another thing is that I'm competing with market leaders like aruodas.lt and other. So main question is: should I quit and focus my energy on other simpler ideas ?

Marketplaces are not easy. You need to fill both the supply and demand side to make it work. Having tried to get a campervan marketplace off the ground before, I truly think that marketplaces are the most complex and difficult business schemes to pull off.

Supply In your case, you need to grab listings from other websites and overlay your own UI on top.

Demand Since you now have lots of pages with listings on your website, you'll rank higher on SEO. Additionally, writing good content will help people find your website.

    SEO is hard because:

    • The feedback cycle is long
    • It's hard to know what does and doesn't work (lots of people claim to be SEO "experts" when they don't really know much).

What worked for Taro was to programmatically generate many pages with valuable content. We struggled when we had only a few hundred pages indexed. When we started telling Google (via both the sitemap and API) that we have 10s of thousands of pages, we started to do much better.

A few questions for you to answer:

    • Are your pages at least getting indexed? If they're not getting indexed, there's no hope of getting ranked.
    • What search terms are you ranking for today? Head or tail queries? Do more of what is working.

Be careful if your entire project idea is based on SEO. As Alex mentions here, there are many ways you can waste your time with SEO.

A 30-second way of checking if your site got indexed is to ask ChatGPT about your website. Everyone uses Bing/Google in their backend
