Interviewing Q&A and Videos

In particular, I am about to have a team fit call with a senior manager at Google for an L5 role. The corresponding team/job description from the careers page looks a bit ambiguous (it's a role in google distributed cloud hosted). I am already HC approved post my interviews. I wish to gain understanding for the following topics in the role: Domain specific knowledge requirement for the role Whether my previous SWE backend experiences (in Ads Search and in ML Infra) could be aligned with the role Work load Of course, I do realise that its a fitment call and I need to leave a strong impression on the manager. But need advise as to how can I balance the two aspects given its a short 30min call. Thanks!

I recently encountered an interview. The interviewer seems not quite willing to cooperate at the first beginning, like hiding the camera, not responding to my answers, and just shooting another question right after. Within 1-hour interview, the interviewer spend 40 minutes around behavior questions, most likely: "what's the most critism feedback you recently received?"/ "what's the biggest mistake you've done?"/ "give an example of when you think you received unfair criticism?". The interviewer also asked questions like "what's private cache/ global cache"? "What's the replacement for sharding?" still I do not have any clue about this sort of question. The rest of the tech interview, it's a dp question which I think it's quite challenging to accomplish in 20 minutes. I wonder what is this interview about. Is this kind of a high-pressure interview? Is this kind of interview that we should expect?

I'm a software engineer with 1 year experience and no degree. I recently got an interview with a Big Tech company for a Full-Stack position. I have the phone screen to do first but I've started studying Leetcode so I'm prepared if it goes forward. Recently had an interview with big tech where I proposed a solution that was pretty much textbook from the Alex Xu books. I have had similar experiences with educative. They are all undeniably detailed and great but I feel there are some edge cases that are hard to figure out unless you have worked in those systems. Educative and Alex Xu books are not perfect representations of system design either. There are some small gotchas that a big tech experienced interviewer would catch. This also happened with cochroach db interview where this very senior engineer figured out the material I was using and asked a targeted question that he knew was a flaw in design but not discussed in educative course So I guess the question is how do I do better? I have studied DDIA, alex xu books, Educative. This is question for staff interviews for senior engineers

In a previous mock behavioral interview, I was asked, "Can you describe a time when you missed a deadline?" Would it be appropriate to share an example of when I came close to missing a deadline but ultimately met it, or are the interviewers specifically looking for a situation where I failed to meet a deadline? From my understanding, it seems that companies would want engineers to deliver results on time, so missing deadlines would be viewed negatively. That being said, I am concerned that providing an example of almost missing a deadline might not fully answer the question. I would really appreciate any insights on this topic. Thank you so much!

Hello community ✋I am going to start interview preparation for SDE-3 roles. Need your suggestions on what should I prepare and how much should I prepare? How much should I focus on DSA, system design, machine coding etc?
