Pros: When I assess my experience at a company, I usually look at 5 different dimensions: impact of my work, opportunities for growth, compensation, how fun it is to work there, and how strong a business is the company. Usually my past companies would rate highly across 2 or 3 of these dimensions. I can safely say that my Abnormal Security experience so far rates highly among all of these dimensions. The business is doing cutting edge work, and that definitely shows in how much customer traction there is. I help build products, of which customers actually tell us they love a lot. I build these products with some of the smartest people I've ever worked with. Everyone is respectful, honest, generous with his or her time, and works extremely hard. There's so much exciting work to do, so much to learn, and so many ways to contribute. There's not much more you can ask from a job, so in that sense, I think a career here is an abnormal experience!

Cons: Naturally, for a company that grows super quickly, we're experiencing some growing pains. Some things that worked for a 10-50 person company aren't going to work for a 100-500 person company. We uncover these things as they come and fix them, so it's all good in the neighborhood.

Pros: Got to learn a lot in a short time, with excellent mentorship.

Cons: High expectations of output. Very high velocity.

Pros: Compensation is good, but at a price: the long hours. Eventually, you might not earn as much if you divide by the number of hours, and you can expect a 60-hour week.

Cons: The hours are long, the velocity is insane, and your manager is pressured to deliver in time or ahead of schedule, which means you get pressured to as well. I don’t think it’s normal if everyone in the company is working overtime all the time and people are hesitant to take annual leave even though it’s unlimited. I wouldn’t recommend this place for the culture and if you want to start a family or want to learn or just have a life. Additionally, employees who have been there long enough and are accustomed to the culture may find it easier to get promoted, but may not have the leadership or empathy or professionalism compared to other individuals at similar ranks in other companies.
