Pros: Remote-first, interesting technical problems, and smart people

Cons: Lots of talent has been leaving recently, and pay is not very competitive.

Pros: 1. In all my time working I have never been at a place where there is such consistent, emphatic, exuberantly positive reviews from customers. Startups always talk about Product Market Fit, and it seems like Abnormal has solidly found it; our POV conversion rates are insane, and customers are stepping up left and right to engage with us and/or give positive referrals - I've never seen anything quite like it. 2. The culture of the company is amazing. Abnormal combines the best of both an intense, locked-in and driven culture with one of support and empathy. People run hard and are responsible for the work that they do, but there is never any expectation to work extra on the weekends or past working hours. 3. There are some incredibly capable and experienced people on the team, disproportionate to the stage that the company is in, which is Series B as of this writing. 4. Other more generic points about hypergrowth startups also apply: growing with the company, outsized opportunity to own and ship certain products, and potential financial upsides.

Cons: 1. The startup life is not for everyone, and you should be aware of what you're signing up for. Being at a startup often entails more ambiguity, longer hours, sometimes putting business critical projects ahead of personal interests, moving with velocity vs always going with the perfect world solution, and that's not for everyone. If you are clear about what you're signing up for and are looking to run though, I can't think of a better place.

Pros: The ICs that keep the company operating, systems running, and making sure customers are happy.

Cons: As many other reviews also have brought up: * Micromanaging CTO that is unable to take any feedback well, yet has to make every final decision due to all eng/product/design rolling under him. Leading to missed horizontal communications between teams, misalignments, thrash in development speed but yet it's the ICs that are scapegoats and managed out/fired because CTO reports are all yes men. * Culture has changed for the worse, company values non-existent. Employees are always worried about company health, runway, given all the mixed messages and actions from senior leadership teams. * For engineers: We run into production issues frequently because of how our tech stack is built and running into scaling issues or sometimes frankly lack of code review rigor to "get it done". Previously we hire experienced engineers that wanted to improve the platform, but they all either quit or managed out due to conflict with our CTO for something so trivial where because he doesn't have Golang experience, he enforced the team to use Django/Python and then forced out the tech lead for questioning why. * Email Product is good, but the market is slowly catching up and also have similar solutions. Sadly company strategy keeps pivoting and trying to develop reactive/half-baked features that then add to the tech debt over time. * Work-life balance is terrible, lack of empathy from senior leadership, subjective performance reviews and last minute changes in bonus calculation formula etc... * Layoffs could've been done better, instead of saying at all hands the company is doing well, customers love us, and then the next week laying off people.
