Pros

Had an opportunity to be one of the pioneering trainees for the JAVA MOOCS Bootcamp. SMEs prepared us well by letting us work on a project. They also instructed us to perform daily standup meetings to mimic real-world processes. My overall experience with the training was good.

Seniors were patient and understanding to newcomers (like myself). Many managers are willing to help you reach your career goals.

Salary was higher than I expected for a fresh graduate from college.

Has a decent office in Cebu IT Park, Cebu City, Philippines.

Has adapted to a hybrid setup due to the pandemic.

Promotes workplace diversity and inclusion.

Lots of learning opportunities.

Cons

I was benched for almost six months after the bootcamp. Since there was no demand for Java capability resources at the time, I felt stuck throughout the bench period due to the lack of actual projects.

It can be hard to adapt to a fast-paced environment as someone who just graduated from college.

Some managers set unrealistic work expectations and deadlines that are difficult to achieve. This ends up resulting in a lot of turnover due to burnout.

Some projects demand a lot of your time and might need you available during the night, after your shift.

OT (Offer Time); there is no overtime pay in this case.

Advice to Management

The management must know that employees are making extra efforts to finish work even after their shifts.

Please remind the managers to promote work-life balance among team members to lessen burnout.
