Pros
  1. Perks are good. (Travel + Shift Allowance if in Maintenance/ Support Projects).
  2. The company is good in terms of salary hikes for homegrown employees.
  3. Variable pay is good for homegrown employees. (Homegrown means a person who has been with the employer from the start of their career)
Cons
  1. Not a good company for laterals, as they give a good salary hike while switching. But once you join the company, their sad policy of leveling salaries comes into play.

For example, you got a package of 10 LPA, and someone homegrown at the same level is earning 7 LPA. They will try to level it in 2-3 appraisal cycles by giving homegrown folks more hikes and less to laterals. They should actually change this policy, as someone who came as a lateral was capable enough to clear interviews, has even proved their capabilities in the appraisal cycle, and is getting less than what they deserve.

  1. More support/maintenance projects.

In Accenture:

  • AM means support.
  • AD means development.

They do say maintenance has bug fixes and minor development, but that isn’t true.

Advice to Management

Everything is good. Just hikes need to be given to deserving candidates rather than looking at homegrown ones.

Homegrown folks take good hikes and switch, so you have to keep in mind deserving ones should be given more hikes so that they don’t plan to leave the firm. As you know, max projects are AM projects, and people are not getting much development experience. At least pay them more to keep them happy.
