Pros
  1. Lots of projects.
  2. Trainings (especially in Avanade) are good. Good chance to learn new Microsoft skills.
  3. Flexible work timings (though varies from project to project).
  4. Direct client exposure.
  5. More accountability and responsibility to work. It provides a greater path to take more initiatives in the technical area.
  6. Managers do have a technical bent of mind and understand the system.
Cons
  1. Screwed up appraisal process. Appraisal greatly depends on the current project at the time of appraisal, where little importance is given to previous feedback.

  2. The client is God over here, so a little bad feedback from the client can screw up your whole appraisal and promotion.

  3. Pay discrimination with laterals.

  4. Managers are only technical, lacking leadership skills.

  5. No onsite opportunities. Only fake onsite opportunities are promised at the time of leaving. Long-term onsites are absent, except for 2-3 months of travel.

  6. Less respect for employees, poor work-life balance, poor reward and appreciation.

  7. Supervisors are more client-focused and would hardly focus on subordinates' productivity enhancements.

  8. High attrition, works with contract employees in many projects, compromising quality.

  9. Dim chance for lateral career shift.

Advice to Management

Improve your leadership skills.

Reach out to developers and senior developers for their concerns. Hold meetings timely to motivate people and put employee satisfaction into action. Create long-term onsite opportunities, not just make fake offers at the time of leaving.
