Lower levels start with a very low salary, and the process to be promoted (and get higher salaries) takes too long.

Through the interview process. Test basics of all your core subjects. Major focus on algorithms and data structures. OOPs programming questions were a little tricky. Go through the questions a few times to get the answer.
