It was through a recruiting company that presented me with this opportunity. The interview consisted of three rounds.
First round: Onsite, as I'm from the same city. It was a mix of screening and technical questions.
Second round: Two video calls, 30 minutes each. This involved general discussions on how I would handle certain scenarios, what AWS services I knew, and how I stay updated with the latest developments. The questions were not deeply technical but focused on logical thinking to understand my approach and problem-solving abilities.
Third round (surprise): The manager devised an assignment on the spot, wrote it in a text file, and sent it to the recruiter, who then shared it with me. The scope was very broad, and they expected it to be completed in three days. This meant designing an architecture with diagrams and implementing it within that timeframe. They responded to my initial queries. I managed to complete it within the given time, fulfilling all requirements with proper documentation.
The feedback from the first and second rounds was positive, and I was expecting an offer. However, at the last moment, the hiring manager decided to assign a coding task.
It took a month and multiple engineers to review my submission. After a few pings, they finally responded, stating they would not proceed with me because my assignment was not fully implemented. They provided only one line of feedback on my submission, despite the significant effort I invested. Clearly, they did not value candidates' time and efforts. A typical company would discuss and review the assignment with the candidate in person, which they did not do.
This experience left a very bad impression of the company, considering the overall process and the time it took.
