Pros
  • It's really hard to get PIPed/fired.
  • Everyone's generally really nice, and I've never really encountered workplace toxicity that wasn't immediately addressed.
  • Work-life balance is about as good as it gets.
  • Despite commands from leadership, hardly anyone is working on-site >50%.
Cons
  • No one ever quits or gets fired, so there's little opportunity for upward or lateral mobility.
  • The larger/older the codebase, the more difficult it is to contribute, and the more fragile the automation/build pipeline.
  • The fact that so many still WFH makes it really difficult to get things from people when you need them. Expect Slack responses in either 2 minutes or 2 days.
Advice to Management
  • Work harder to foster better collaboration among teammates and between teams
