Process

I applied for the position on their website and was contacted by the recruiter after one day. The recruiter informed me that the role I applied for had already been filled and suggested another position. This role seemed suitable, so I proceeded with it.

The recruiter was efficient and scheduled my Skype interview for the day after tomorrow with the development manager. The interview was a general and technical discussion, covering topics such as threading, code output, my knowledge of Agoda, and my interests.

The following day, I received a "Take Home Test" involving threads, which was to be completed within seven business days (ten days total). I submitted it on the eighth day, having worked on it for approximately 30 hours.

Five days after submission, I received an email from the recruiter stating that I was still under consideration and they would provide the "Take Home Test" results by the following week. I replied promptly, and after 45 minutes, the recruiter emailed to say the feedback was good and scheduled another Skype interview for the next week.

This interview was with a Senior Software Engineer (Team Lead) and was significantly more technical than the first. Questions focused on load balancing and data structures. This time, they responded after only two days and invited me to Bangkok for in-person interviews. The entire process of booking a ticket, obtaining a visa, and flying to Bangkok took me 25 days.

I had a total of eight interviews over two days in Bangkok. Most of these were with development managers. The questions primarily related to algorithms such as sorting and searching, with some focusing on system design. I felt I performed well in five of the interviews and provided only partial solutions in three. Evidently, this was not enough, as I did not receive an offer.

I received a rejection email after two working days, with no feedback provided.

Overall, most of the interviewers were pleasant and spoke politely. However, I found two of them disengaged and very serious, not engaging in light conversation and using their phones during the interview, which I perceived as somewhat disrespectful. This might be acceptable within their culture, so it could be a misjudgment on my part.

Strange occurrences:

  • The office was remarkably quiet during my interviews. Approximately 50 people were present in the room, yet it was silent.

  • This is the most unusual situation I have ever experienced and could be considered humorous. Before the interviews began on the first day, I was waiting near the information desk. When I asked if I could use the restroom, the person behind the desk asked me to wait. They then went inside and returned after five to ten minutes to grant permission. I felt as though they had to seek approval.
