Software Engineering Interview Experience

Process

Applied online.

I was contacted back by a recruiter two days later to schedule a technical phone interview.

I interviewed twice.

Both of my interviewers were foreign (Asian, probably Chinese) and had accents that were difficult to understand. I had to ask them to repeat themselves more than once.

The first question was fair; the second was simply poorly worded.

The interviewer called approximately 30 minutes late.

I was annoyed by how the interviewers simply copy-pasted questions from a question bank and asked me to read them. This was even after I wasted half of the interview trying to understand the questions, given inconsistent variable naming and a prompt with unclear examples. My second interviewer even admitted that the question should be rephrased.

Questions

The questions were not hard. They tried to take regular brain teaser questions and make them seem practical by putting them in a fictitious context (e.g., "Airbnb has this problem...").
