Agency: If you see a gap, you can fill it. Several of our teams have been formed by a couple of engineers deciding that something needs to be improved, and rather than telling management that there is a need, they just filled the need themselves.
For a lot of engineers, the tendency is to automate everything. It can require a fair bit of discipline to do things that don't scale, but at this stage of the company's growth, the opportunity cost of working on automation for a couple of weeks can be significant.
