This was probably the worst interview experience I have ever had.
I applied online and after a few weeks, I was sent a HackerRank assessment. After passing that, I received a take-home test. Up to this point, the interview process was fine.
However, afterwards, I had a phone screen interview. It was scheduled during my finals period, so I requested an extension. They stated they could not move the interview as they wanted to finish recruiting, which I found to be fair enough.
The interview itself was very useless. It was essentially a repeat of the take-home test. Furthermore, the interviewer was the most disinterested person I have ever encountered. I would explain my process as I wrote my code, and whenever I asked for confirmation, he would simply say that I should do whatever I felt was right.
There was very little communication apart from that, so most of the time I was just talking to myself. The worst part was that the next day, I received an email stating they had already filled the spots, which meant they didn't even evaluate me.
This especially annoyed me, as I had taken so much time from my already hectic finals schedule to study and prepare for this interview, only to have it be a complete waste of time.
