Process

The first level of the hiring process was an online assessment. It included two "hard liquid style" questions and a survey. I felt that the questions were very hard; I only started answering one question.

I had 45 minutes for the assessment. The question was regarding lists and two-way lists, and finding a number of elements within a list and giving back the biggest ones.

Questions

Given a 2D list and a list, and an example x:

  • If the list contains three lists of size 3 and x is 1:
    • Return the biggest element from the list.
  • If the list contains three elements and x is 1:
    • Return the biggest element from the list.
  • If the list contains three lists of size 3, and index 1 is 1:
    • Give back the biggest element from the 2D list.
  • If the list contains three elements, and index 1 is 1:
    • Give back the biggest element from the list.
  • If the list contains three lists of size 3, and index 2 is 2:
    • Give back the two biggest elements from the 2D array.
  • If the list contains three elements, and index 2 is 2:
    • Give me back the two biggest elements from the list.
  • And so forth.
  • If x is 2:
    • Give the sum of the two biggest numbers.
  • If this cannot be done, return -1.
