The interview process was standard.

The online assessment focused on building some UI applications using standard HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Then, I was reached out to for a phone screen. The phone screen focused on typical HTML, CSS, and Javascript rather than React.

There were some behavioral questions related to Amazon's Leadership Principles.

Pros: The Amazon Ads department is way more laid back compared to other Amazon departments. Teammates are smart and professional. We still have on-call, but release crunch isn't bad at all. Amazon is also a big company, so there are plenty of job opportunities within it. In Ads specifically, we have not heard of any "retaliatory" behaviors against employees not meeting their "come into the office" requirements yet.

Cons: Amazon has recently been cranking up requirements to come into the office. For small "one pizza" teams, it feels arbitrary because often there is no reason to come in when the team is busy, on PTO, or whatever. Coming into the office makes the most sense when you can plan with fellow teammates rather than being "required" to come in as individuals. Benefits are also a little worse at Amazon than at other big tech companies.
