Amazon Work Experiences

Challenging but rewarding

Nde Engineer • Current Employee

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

January 29, 2023

Pros: Supportive environment that puts onus on People Leaders rather than employees. Very high job ceiling. You could spend your entire career here. All engineers have a high level of technical skill. Good for peers and not too many being carried by others.

Cons: High bar. This will keep you on your toes. Sometimes communication is siloed. For such a large company, I'm surprised it's not worse. People who have spent time in Ops appear to have a considerable amount of trauma. But the best are really outstanding.

Lots of experience but very competitive

Software Developer Engineer • Current Employee

Seattle, Washington, United States

Pros: You will get lots of experience working with technology built with scalability in mind. It instills good working values like Customer Obsession.

Cons: Even after you get hired, you are always evaluated against the ever-rising 'bar'. The 'bar' is the average technical and leadership skill of your peers in the company. Basically, if you are deemed to be worse off than 50% of your peers across the company, you are in danger.
