Pros: My skills, network, career, and compensation have never stopped growing at Amazon. I’ve achieved great work-life harmony.

Cons: Your manager is 90% of what matters at Amazon. I’ve seen more than one person get completely screwed when a re-org gave them a bad manager. I’ve seen people I look up to driven out of the company when, less than a year before, they were given the highest possible rating by a different manager. Amazon does have a system that lets people appeal manager decisions, but it’s sort of a coin toss.

Pros: You get exposed to complex business. Anything that you do can have a huge impact on business. You get to work on large-scale systems & data. You get to work with above-average engineers.

Cons: Work has become too slow when compared to how it was 5 years ago. Bureaucracy has set in. Too many processes, and everything takes time. Many people review even a simple deployment or change request. Defensive planning in everything; not willing to take any risk in planning or execution. Engineers have become too lazy and are not showing much ownership as they are allowed to change teams easily. Managers are focusing on keeping employees happy to retain them, even they give very relaxed effort estimates. So, it's not a great company for fast movers; it's losing its sheen.

Pros: 1. Latest technologies 2. Very large scale 3. Good ownership and accountability

Cons: 1. Work-life balance is a bit skewed.
