Process

An internal Amazon recruiter reached out for an initial interview and then sent a take-home assessment.

The assessment consisted of:

  • Two coding problems on HackerRank with a 60-minute time limit.
  • About 15 "situational work environment" questions.
  • Some personality questions.

The situational work environment questions consisted mostly of system architecture questions, which I was not expecting, as this job was pitched as entry to mid-level.

Questions

Given an input of two arrays, powerOutputs and boostedOutputs, representing computers' power output and boosted output respectively, and a maximum allowed power, powerMax, return the maximum amount of adjacent computers that are less than or equal to powerMax.

The formula to calculate total power output is: totalPowerOutput = powerOutputs[i] + powerOutputs[i + 1...] + (boostedOutputs[i] + boostedOutputs[i + 1...]) * numOfAdjacentComputers.
