Pros
  • Good base salary (still a bit lower than many other big tech companies).
  • Improving benefit offers.
  • Great way to learn AWS Cloud stack.
  • Work with modern tech stack (but neither best or latest stack).
  • They do hire many smart engineers.
Cons
  • Micromanagement.
  • Understaffed in many teams, meaning people are always overworked.
  • Too much office politics.
  • Sixty percent of time is wasted in meetings without conclusion.
  • Way too much writing (why is almost everyone in Amazon so against bulleted points?).
  • Many of my peers are surprised when I use more diagrams than words in my design docs.
  • Worst work-life balance.
Advice to Management
  • Please be mentors and do not micromanage.
  • Engineers are human, not coding monkeys.
