Pros

It's always Day 1, because you keep learning new stuff.

The inside Wiki and other such portals are great; you can just keep browsing them to know and learn new stuff that keeps going on inside Amazon.

My team in the Access Points Org is great—super-helpful, super-supportive, and friendly.

You get to work autonomously on stuff, make decisions, take ownership, take initiatives, and discuss with anyone in the Engg or Product team.

My reporting manager is super-technical and completely aligned with the team, their priorities, and is aware when someone is overloaded with work and needs help.

+1 to the virtual onboarding, medical insurance, internet reimbursement, Zeta meal card, transport allowance, and other such employee benefits.

Cons

Too many jargons and acronyms, and you will keep coming across new ones.

So many processes, tools, and technologies are used within Amazon. Once you start into new stuff, you will definitely come across them.

Personally, my KT process was not planned and well-directed. I had to randomly view project docs and Wiki pages to get an initial understanding.

Advice to Management

The onboarding plan for all new hires should be communicated well in advance to set the right expectations. KT should include information on most commonly used abbreviations and an understanding of processes within Amazon.

There could be cross-team fun activities planned through virtual conferencing during these pandemic times.
