Your manager is 90% of what matters at Amazon. I’ve seen more than one person get completely screwed when a re-org gave them a bad manager. I’ve seen people I look up to driven out of the company when, less than a year before, they were given the highest possible rating by a different manager. Amazon does have a system that lets people appeal manager decisions, but it’s sort of a coin toss.
