Depending on your team, you don't get to write a lot of code and spend a lot of time on ops.
Even simple systems are a pain to write due to all the legacy services you have to deal with and interact with; this can be very frustrating.
Developers end up doing a lot of administrator work.
There's a very small chance of ever working on a new system.
