You have to support what you deliver. This includes a lot of operational tasks, which is a pain for SDEs.

As you work on most of the in-house frameworks, you don't generally get to use industry-standard frameworks.

Employees are just working machines for them. Frugality is the main principle, and that reflects in every coffee machine at Amazon, let alone goodies or office parties.
Customer service is important, but so is pampering the employees. If you don't do that, you will keep on losing some of the great minds.
