Pros

Smart people, good managers, very good customer focus, which drives all business decisions and helps to innovate. Many good development tools which remove burden. However, since Amazon is big, this hugely varies between different departments and teams, so be careful where you go.

Cons

Like in any big company, most technologies and tools are internal, making the experience hardly applicable anywhere else. Cheap and sluggish developer workstations (forget SSDs). Strict policies around personal projects, even those remotely competitive to Amazon's business(es).

Advice to Management

At least one VP is so full of ego to the point it's ridiculous and obvious to everyone but him. Employees realize when they are treated poorly, even when words speak the opposite.

Also, being such a science and data-driven company, it's unfortunate that you ignore all the impact of open space sitting on productivity.
