Pros
  • Internal transfers are a piece of cake.
  • It pays well.
  • The hiring bar is low, so getting in is easy.
  • There's too much to learn about corporate drama and how to survive in the corporate environment.
  • The company is, as a whole, thriving.
Cons
  • Managers delegate managerial work to SDEs.
  • Managers keep changing, so satisfaction of having a good manager is temporary.
  • Leadership preaches business (of course). To stand out, SDEs tend to do the same, showing rather minimal interest in technical growth.
  • Skills picked are mostly not industry transferable since a lot of internal tools are used.
  • Front-end work is looked down upon.
Advice to Management
  • Reward employees with more, like other big techs, if you expect them to die for work.
  • Start giving tech a lot more importance.
  • Start recognizing front-end work as a piece of engineering; other companies did it more than a decade ago.
