Relatively good software development practices
The Toronto office is a second-class citizen in the Amazon world. The salary is lower than in Seattle, and the work is less interesting. Working in a remote office means spending half of the day writing emails. You can get into a team in which you almost don't get to code and spend a lot of time with administration and maintenance. Amazon's frugality is sometimes ridiculous – you get the cheapest monitors, keyboards, etc., regardless of poor quality.
Have some Toronto-based projects which require less worldwide communication. Raise the salaries to the level in Seattle. Don't be cheap.
I was interviewed at Amazon in July 2025 for a Software Development Engineer I position. After I applied, I received an online assessment which had a validity of 7 days. Following that, I had one virtual interview with a senior manager.
A phone screen, which is a medium-difficulty LeetCode coding question (algorithms and data structures). Followed by a virtual onsite, which includes: * Two coding interviews (also data structures and algorithms) * One system design interview * One
Received a recruiter email with instructions on how to prepare for the online assessment. The OA was the standard for Amazon, featuring two coding questions, followed by a work simulation (system design focused), and then behavioral questions.
