Pros

Total compensation is of course very nice. Colleagues are very high level; there's a lot to learn. The product is very high quality (even the old parts).

Cons

Steep learning curve: few industry-standard technologies.

Chaos: During my time there was a lot of reprioritization and canceled projects.

Workload: During my first year, I did 50-60 hour work weeks regularly. If you have other things going on in life and you are not a savant, this will burn you out fast.

Advice to Management

The stress is baked into the system. It is the core of how Amazon operates. It would be helpful if people were not treated as only resources (even though this is said not to be the case).

For me, a better training plan would also help. Instead of the Embark plan, it would be better to focus on the technologies in use at the company and go over the concepts one by one, explaining how they relate to each other.

  • What can be used together
  • Which one is a replacement, etc.
